PRE & POST LASER CARE

Laser hair removal is a commitment and if you're committing we like to make sure you are getting the most out of your treatments. Here are a few tips for before and after your laser hair removal appointments

sun-cream

Sun Screen! We encourage our clients to use sunscreen after getting your treatments so that your sensitive skin doesn't get hurt!

Patch test! We ALWAYS provide a free consultation that includes a patch test before we start any laser hair removal treatments.

EEK the sun! It's best if you stay out of the sun and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior to your laser hair removal appointment. If you're sunburned or dark tanned we can't do the treatment (winter is the best time for this service!)

Avoid sunless tanning products 7 days prior to your treatment. It is recommended that you exfoliate the area to remove any residual color

Shave it! Right before your appointment, you need to shave. The laser targets the pigments of your hair follicle. The follicles have to be there for the treatment to work.

sauna

Avoid it! After your treatments, it's best to stay away from hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, the gym and perfumes for at least 24-48 hours.

wax

No waxing! or plucking in between your treatments. But you can shave.

Consistency is key! You won't be silky smooth after your first treatment. It will take a few sessions. That's why we provide packages for you and encourage you to come back regularly for your sessions.

If you have Botox or dermal fillers in the area to be treated, we ask that you wait 14 days before and/or after your injection to receive treatments.

cream

Natural skin is the best skin! It is best not to use any lotions, oils or gels prior to your appointment.

You can apply numbing cream 30 to 40 minutes prior to your treatment but all products must be completely removed prior to treatment.

If you are treating any part of your face or neck you will be required to cleanse your entire face in the salon.

You should avoid chemical peels and other laser procedures on the area being treated for 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after your laser treatment.

Avoid all alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxyl products (AHA/BHA), hydroquinone, retinol/retinoid, Tazorac, and Differin for 7 days before treatment.

If you are prone to cold sores, it is highly recommended to take an anti-viral medication prior to your treatment! If you have active cold sores we cannot treat you.

If you have used Accutane or similar products within the last 6 months you cannot have laser hair removal treatments.

Antibiotics can increase photosensitivity. We recommend that you check with your personal physician prior to receiving laser treatments.

Tylenol is recommended for post-treatment discomfort.

We recommend using over the counter medication for post-treatment discomfort.

And you can also apply Nature’s Aid, cool towels, ice packs or aloe vera to alleviate discomfort due to heat.

A FEW QUICK NOTES:

We ask that prior to your service you provide your technician with an accurate and up to date medical history in order to receive safe and effective treatments.

We ask that if you experience any side effects, such as hypo- or hyper-pigmentation, prolonged redness or
swelling, a histamine reaction, or blistering, to call us or come in for instructions as our technician can best describe this for you!

Side effects are uncommon but may include:

You may experience slight redness, bumps, and swelling in the treated area for up to 72 hours. If these conditions persist, use Nature’s Aid or Polysporin.

Hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin), Hypopigmentation (loss of skin pigmentation), mild to moderate burns or blisters, permanent skin discoloration, temporary redness, follicular edema (little pink/red “puffiness and small bumps like “goosebumps”), swelling and itching in the treated area, hives, rashes, bruising, and lack of desired results.

You may not be able to receive laser hair removal if:

  • You are pregnant.
  • Technicians cannot treat over tattoos.
  • If you have epilepsy, we are unable to provide treatment.

Note That:

We require all laser hair removal clients receieve a consultation before purchasing and starting any sessions.

Clients with red, grey or blonde hair in the area to be treated should consult with the BBare Beauty Bar Laser Technician prior to receiving treatments, as the laser is less effective on these hair colours.

On average, our clients experience up to 30% reduction after each treatment.

For best results, allow your technician(s) to customize your treatment schedule based on your needs. On average, most will experience a level of hairless happiness after 6-9 sessions.

Treated hairs will appear as small black dots, stubble or as if still growing. You will naturally expel these treated hairs over the next 10 – 14 days.
